May 2014 Update:
Florida is a great place to go on vacation as a family or for a more intimate getaway with your significant other. From the southern most tip of the state to the panhandle, there are many things for you to see and do in Florida. If you love the beach, out of the approximately 1200 miles of coastland, there are about 700 miles of sandy beaches to enjoy.
You can hang out on the west coast of the state and enjoy the waters of the Gulf of Mexico or go east and enjoy the beaches on the Atlantic Ocean side of the state. Body surfing, swimming, sailing and fishing are some of the favored activities when in the "Sunshine State."
Where to Go in Florida
Many families enjoy spending time in the Tampa and Orlando area of Florida when they go on vacation. You can spend time on some of the most beautiful white sand beaches in the state by visiting Clearwater Beach, St. Petersburg or Indian Rocks Beach. Then to visit Disneyworld, Epcot Center or Universal Studios, you just have to make an easy 90 mile drive to Orlando to take in those attractions.
Southern Florida has several spots that make for a beautiful romantic getaway. Visit Key West for your honeymoon to enjoy the beaches and local scenery in a more intimate and relaxed way. You can tour the estate of Ernest Hemingway and see the offspring of the cats he cared for when living in this southern area of the state. No visit to the area is complete without taking in a slice, or several, of their fabulous key lime pie.
Things You can Do
If you are looking for something a bit livelier, check out Miami and enjoy their hot nightlife. You can bask in the sun on the beach during the day and dance away the night in some of the hottest clubs in the country in Miami. Enjoy the Cuban influence on their culture and travel throughout the city to see some of the beautiful art deco architecture still standing today.
Florida is home to several professional sports teams like the Miami Dolphins, the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, the Miami Heat, the Orlando Magic, the Tampa Bay Rays, the Florida Panthers and the Miami Marlins. Racing fans can witness the famous Daytona 500 in Daytona Beach or travel across the state for an INDYCAR race in St. Petersburg.
